Description
Percy Mayfield was a rhythm & blues singer and songwriter. Vocally he had a smooth relaxed style and as a songwriter he was best known for the songs “Please Send Me Someone to Love” and “Hit the Road Jack”.
He began performing in Texas and then moved to Los Angeles in 1942, but he had no success and struggled until 1947, when Swing Time Records signed him to record his song “Two Years of Torture.” The record sold well enough to get Mayfield signed to Specialty Records in 1950. He recorded blues ballads, mostly songs he wrote, including his most famous song, “Please Send Me Someone to Love” and many others.
This is a classic blues album by the one and only Percy Mayfield. These recordings have been the favorite of blues fans since they were recorded in the 60’s.
