Big Joe Turner’s career stretched from the bars in Kansas City in the 1920s to the European Blues & Jazz music festivals of the 1980s.
He had success in the 1950s with blues/rock recordings, especially “Shake, Rattle and Roll”. In 1951, while doing a show with Count Basie at the Apollo Theater, he was discovered and signed to Atlantic Records where he recorded a series of hits, including “Chains of Love” and and “Honey Hush”.
Big Joe Turner became a major star in 1954 with “Shake, Rattle and Roll”, a massive hit. He followed that with hits “Flip Flop and Fly,” “Hide and Go Seek,” “Morning, Noon and Night,” and “The Chicken and the Hawk”. “Corrine, Corrina” was another massive hit in 1956.
