Frankie Avalon was one of the hottest teen idols to come out of Philadelphia. He was a child prodigy appearing on television playing his trumpet by the time he was 11. As a teenager he played trumpet in the group called Rocco and the Saints with a left handed drummer named Bobby Rydell.
Avalon had his first hit, Venus, in 1959 followed by “Why” and “Bobby Sox To Stockings”. Avalon starred in the “beach party” films during the mid-1960s with Annette Funicello. Additionally, he starred in several films in straight dramatic roles. In 1978 he appeared in the film Grease and had a hit with “Beauty School Dropout”.
