Mel Tormé, “The Velvet Fog” as he was called, was a singer, composer and actor. He was one of the greatest jazz vocalists of all time.

In the early 1940’s he was the singer, drummer and arranger for the Chico Marx (of the Marx Brothers) band. He then formed a vocal group called Mel Tormé and His Mel-Tones, which was the first jazz style vocal groups, paving the way for groups like the Manhattan Transfer.

Mel began his solo singing career at New York’s Copacabana. He recorded for Decca, Musicraft and Capitol with the best musicians and arrangers including Marty Paich which produced the wonderful “Mel Tormé And The Marty Paich Dek-Tette for Bethlehem Records. With those recordings Tormé also became known as a top arranger as well. As a songwriter he is best known for “The Christmas Song” (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire).

We are very happy to bring you the classic early Mel Torme’ recording.

This is Mel Tormé – “Don’t Worry ‘Bout Me”.
