This album was a true labor of love for me (Shelly Liebowitz) as the producer, after all Ray is like family.
Through the years I have produced many (several hundred) albums and in the past I worked with Sammy Davis Jr, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Dean Martin, Carmen McRae and many more including Ray’s Mother, Ella Fitzgerald. When we decided to record a new album I told Ray that I thought doing an album with great artists, songs and arrangements who also had a connection to him, his parents or myself could be very cool. These pairings and arrangements worked out even better than we thought possible.
The wonderful collection of musical giants here include Jane Monheit, Dionne Warwick, James Moody, Terry Gibbs, Melba Moore, Dr. John, Paul Williams, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Maria Muldaur and more!
The album was critically acclaimed and quickly became a favorite of jazz radio. It still garners lots of airplay and streams on Apple Music and Spotify.
