Jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer, Jack Millman was 17 when he was joined Lionel Hampton’s band for a 6-week stint in Los Angeles, then he joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra for a West Coast road tour. He also played with Prez Prado’s Band briefly in 1955.
During the 1950’s and 1960’s Millman had his own jazz groups and played all over the west coast. Jack Millman recorded for Decca Records as part of their Jazz Lab series and recorded for several labels with many different incarnations of his own jazz groups that included everyone from Shelley Manne, Red Norvo, Chet Baker and Maynard Ferguson, among many others.
Jack Millman was one of the major creator’s of the West Coast Jazz sound.
