Description
Lionel Hampton was a great jazz vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, bandleader and actor. Hampton worked with the top jazz musicians from Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, and Buddy Rich to Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, and Quincy Jones. Hampton influenced almost every Jazz artist who grew up listening to this Jazz master.
Hampton received awards and honors from every corner of the world – from Israel, to the USA to the Pope. He was the honorary Chairman of the International Jazz Hall Of Fame and a Goodwill Ambassador appointed by President Eisenhower and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1996. In 1996 he was inducted into The International Jazz Hall of Fame at the ceremony he performed “Flying Home” with Illinois Jacquet and the Count Basie Orchestra.
