Description

Jose Marino is considered an undisputed master on the bass in Brazilian music. Which bass player can actually look back on a music career that reaches as far as “Astrud Gilberto” and the original “Girl Of Ipanema”. Born 1940 in Brazil, Jose had his first public performance already at the tender age of 10. Back then he was playing the Cavaquinho (a typical samba instrument with 4 string that resembles the guitar). He later learned to play guitar, which he even plays today occasionally, and finally he discovered the double bass and the electric bass as his main instruments. In the early stages of his professional career as a musician in Brazil he played from 1962 to 1965 with Johnny Alf, Lenny Andrade, Wilson Simonal, Pedro Matar, Erasmo Carlos and Vanderleia. In 1965 he moved to the United States where he lives today and since then he played with many famous artists like Walter Wanderley, Bola Sete, Milton Nascimento, Claire Fisher, Laurindo de Almeida, Astrud Gilberto, Edú Lobo, Herbie Hancock, Joe Sample, Franco Russolino, Urbie Green, Bucky Pizzarelli, Willie Bobo, Bud Shank, John Pisano, Dori Caimmi, Oscar Castro Neves, Eumir Deodato, just to name a few.
