Son House is one of the preeminent blues artists.
In 1941 Alan Lomax recorded him for a Fisk University-Library of Congress study. During the 1960s “blues revival” he gained major notoriety through his trance-like performances that showcased his aggressive guitar style. He would occasionally rise from his chair to sing spirited a cappella gospel songs.
